HID – High Intensity Discharge lighting systems are the latest breakthrough in lighting technology and ideally suited to diving applications. Conventional halogen lamps typically produce 20 lumens per watt and a 3100K colour temperature, HID lamps however produce 60 lumens per watt with a 6000K colour temperature.


What does this all mean?


Output – With HID any given battery size will produce approx 3x the burn time for an equivalent output or allow you to run a HID lamp 3x brighter then a given halogen for the same burn time.


Colour Temperature – Halogen lamps produce a very ‘yellow' light, where HID'S high colour temperature is much ‘whiter' and comparable to ‘daylight'. The result is a compact, extremely bright lighting system with excellent burn time and colour characteristics. The Custom Divers HID range utilises the latest 12 volt rechargeable battery technology contained within a precision machined stainless steel housing. The cap is threaded to allow easy access in to the housing which incorporates an automatic pressure bleed to guard against over pressurisation. The new smaller housing is harnessed with a new range of battery sizes and burn times (see specification for further details, standard systems are coded below.) Light heads are manufactured from high grade aluminium and are anodised steel silver. All HID systems are tested in our compression chambers to a depth of 150 metres. The systems are operated by a rotary on/off switch situated on the light head. There is a inter-connecting power cable to fixed connectors to the battery housing and each system comes complete with 240V charger. In addition to the systems shown, other “custom” configurations are available, such as twin head units and optional battery packs for longer burn times. Light heads can also be purchased separately to upgrade existing systems. Light shaping diffuser lenses are available, ideal for video work, removing any ‘hot spot' and guaranteeing a strong, even ‘flood'. We can also supply battery housing pouches and flexible mounting arms to suit any housings. A dedicated stainless steel light unit holder complements the range.


The Custom Divers light unit holder is made from solid stainless steel and supplied with a stainless steel boltsnap. The lighthead is secured in place by two cable ties. The systems may be mounted in various ways; the picture above shows one simple method utilising a cam band (CDBB), alternatives include our quick release couplings (CDQR2) .
